How did the staff respond to nursing? -5 to 5 points
5 points - I let the hostess know that I intended on nursing, in case she was more comfortable seating me somewhere that would be more private (a little test, I know, but she passed with flying colors or she had no clue what I was actually talking about, she was a sweet woman). My waitress was very friendly while I nursed baby in plain sight while she took my order.

Environmental
  • Seating
Is it comfortable for nursing? 0-4 points
4 points - This particular location had some very comfy chairs with a fireplace I found excellent for nursing in.

Is there an area suitable for those desiring privacy? 0-4 points
4 points - There were many places, including the area by the fireplace, where a mother could be more discrete if she so desired.
  • Booster seats
Are they safe and in good condition? 0-4 points
4 points - I admit I did not use a booster during this visit, but as a standard McDonald's restaurants have some of the best booster seats.

Are they clean? 0-4 points
4 points - again, going on a basis of the company standard, the plastic seats are easily cleaned and I decided to give this location the benefit of the doubt. It's not a big deal for a parent to wipe down a plastic seat if it has some crumbs or ketchup.
  • Child-friendly dinnerware & service
Do they have plastic or paper cups with lids for children? 0-3 points
3 points

Do the waiters take extra precaution with silverware (sharp) and serving food and beverages (hot)? 0-3 points
3 points - awarded based on the fact that the company takes extra precaution to label all hot foods and beverages with warning labels.
  • Bathroom Facilities
Do they have a diaper changing station? If so, are they clean and safe? 0-4 points
4 points - yes, and yes

Do they have a toddler seat mounted on the wall? If so, are they clean and safe? 0-4 points

Revision to rating system:

Original plan - With a total possible of 50 points, every 10 points would earn 1 star for an overall visible rating. Due to the fact that at least one star is required at the rating site I opted to use, the following applies:
0-10 points = 1 star
11-20 points = 2 stars
21-30 points = 3 stars
31-40 points = 4 stars
41+ points = 5 stars

And so it begins...

I had this idea while on the trip to Columbus for the "Hooray for Boobies!" nursing event. I will be posting reviews rating restaurants, stores and other businesses on their baby and breastfeeding friendliness. Once I get a format established, I will welcome others to review restaurants as well. I'm going to research to see if there is a site I can utilize to do this.

I plan on using a rating system based on these criteria:

Environmental
  • Seating
  1. Is it comfortable for nursing? 0-4 points
  2. Is there an area suitable for those desiring privacy? 0-4 points
  • Booster seats
  1. Are they safe and in good condition? 0-4 points
  2. Are they clean? 0-4 points
  • Child-friendly dinnerware & service
  1. Do they have plastic or paper cups with lids for children? 0-3 points
  2. Do the waiters take extra precaution with silverware (sharp) and serving food and beverages (hot)? 0-3 points
  • Bathroom Facilities
  1. Do they have a diaper changing station? If so, are they clean and safe? 0-4 points
  2. Do they have a toddler seat mounted on the wall? If so, are they clean and safe? 0-4 points
Social
  • Staff

  2. How did the staff respond to patrons upset by nursing (if any)? -5 to 5 points
  • Patrons
  1. How did patrons respond to nursing? -5 to 5 points
  2. How did patrons respond to staff or other patrons upset by nursing (if any)? -5 to 5 points
With a total possible of 50 points, every 10 points would earn 1 star for an overall visible rating.
